Our Overview

The Blue Cave is located on the island of Biševo, 4.5 nautical miles from the town of Komiža.
It is a natural phenomenon known for its magical play of light created by the reflection of sunlight through the sea. A visit to the Blue Cave leaves no one indifferent.
In 1884, Austrian painter Baron Eugen von Ransonnet introduced this gem to the world. Since 1951, it has been protected as a geomorphological natural monument. During a 2019 study, 119 marine species were recorded in the cave, including 5 that are strictly protected by law.
Swimming inside the cave is prohibited.
Monk Seal Cave is another natural wonder, 160 meters long, with a grand entrance rising 27 meters high. It is the longest semi-submerged cave along the eastern Adriatic coast.
It was named after the Mediterranean monk seal, the only species of Mediterranean seal. This endangered animal used the small beach at the end of the cave to raise its young. Swimming is allowed in this cave.

Porat Bay is a sandy cove located on the western side of Biševo island. Its beautiful sandy beach will add the perfect finishing touch to your visit.

A swim in the turquoise sea will be another unforgettable experience to take home from this magical island.

Everything You Need to Know

Did you know that the Mediterranean monk seal – after which Medvidina Cave is named – is one of the most endangered marine species in the world? Local fishermen once believed their presence brought good luck, but also… that they “stole fish from the nets”! Today, this “thief” is a symbol of the Adriatic’s untamed beauty.
