Our Overview

The Blue Cave is located on the island of Biševo, 4.5 nautical miles from the town of Komiža.
This natural phenomenon is known for its mesmerizing light effect, created by the reflection of sunlight through the sea. A visit to the Blue Cave leaves no one indifferent.
In 1884, Austrian painter Baron Eugen Ransonnet introduced this gem to the world. Since 1951, it has been protected as a geomorphological natural monument. During a 2019 scientific study, 119 marine species were recorded inside the cave — 5 of which are strictly protected by law.
Swimming in the cave is strictly prohibited.

Everything You Need to Know

Did you know that under ideal conditions, the light inside the Blue Cave reflects so precisely that the sea turns an intense shade of blue, while objects submerged in the water appear silver? In old local tales, the cave was said to be “blessed by moonlight” — even when the sun was shining!
